NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Hendrix College junior David Spriewald broke his own school record in the decathlon at the North Central College Gregory Final Qualifier on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Marburg, Germany scored 5,801 points, placing fourth in the ten-event competition.
Spriewald recorded seasons bests in four events, including a second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.08 seconds. He took fifth in the 400 meters in 52.76 seconds, seventh in the 1,500 meters in 5:06.11 and eighth in the pole vault by clearing 2.90 meters (9 ft.-6.25 in.).
Spriewald also placed second in the shot put at 11.23 meters (36 ft.-10.25 in.) and the javelin with a throw of 49.25 meters (161 ft.-7 in.). With a 100 meter dash of 11.59 seconds, Spriewald finished third. He was also fourth in the long jump at 6.12 meters (20 ft.-1 in.) and fourth in the discus at 33.32 meters (109 ft.-4 in.). Spriewald finished sixth in the high jump by clearing 1.66 meters (5 ft.-2.5 in.).
