Krug Earns High Scorer at SCAC

Sophomore Elizabeth Krug scored 38.75 points over the weekend
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sophomore Elizabeth Krug was responsible for 38.75 of Hendrix College's 46 points to earn the high scorer achievement at the 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Heber Springs, Ark. native tied one school record and set two new marks, moving her total to eight outdoor program records.

Krug tied her own mark with a first place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.20 meters (10 ft.-6 in.). She also broke Logynn Jones' long jump record with a leap of 5.48 meters (17 ft.-11.75 in.), placing second. Krug wrapped up Friday with a third place javelin throw of 34.48 meters (113 ft.-1 in.).

In her first ever collegiate triple jump competition, Krug broke the 18 year old school mark held by Katie Levins by nearly nine inches, placing sixth at 10.62 meters (34 ft.-10.25 in.). Krug also teamed with senior Bridget O'Shaughnessy, sophomore Adrie Henry and freshman Tiatjah Johnson for a sixth place finish in the 4x100 meter relay in 51.70 seconds. The relay time was just .68 seconds off the school record. In the 400 meter dash finals, Krug placed second in 57.38 seconds.

Johnson earned three points by placing sixth in the 100 meter dash finals in 12.81 seconds. O'Shaughnessy also picked up a point in the 100, finishing eighth in 13.48 seconds and was sixth in the high jump at 1.47 meters (4 ft.-9.75 in.). On Friday, O'Shaughnessy just missed out on the 200 meter dash finals, placing 10th in 26.66 seconds.

Junior Lindsey Wiggin earned a point with a hammer throw of 36.19 meters (118 ft.-9 in.), placing eighth on Friday. Wiggin also took ninth in the shot put at 9.73 meters (31 ft.-11.25 in.) and 14th in the discus at 29.73 meters (97 ft.-6 in.). Junior Stephanie Davenport finished 13th with a time of 13:53.13 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Rhodes took the women's title with 159 points. They were followed by Trinity (152), Centre (123), Birmingham-Southern (111.5), Millsaps (59), Sewanee (51), Hendrix (46), Oglethorpe (41.5), Colorado College (24), Southwestern (12) and Dallas (0).

For the men, junior Carlton Leding had the Warriors' best finish, taking second place in the 100 meter dash. His sprint of 11.33 seconds was just .22 seconds off the school mark. Leding also finished 14th in the 200 meter dash in 23.30 seconds.

Junior David Spriewald placed sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.28 seconds and was eighth with a javelin throw of 48.54 meters (159 ft.-3 in.). He was also 14th at 5.52 meters (18 ft.-1.5 in.) in the long jump.

Spriewald, Leding, senior Gabe Breshears and freshman Keegan Whicker placed sixth with a 4x400 meter relay time of 3:33.64. Breshears just missed qualifying for the 200 meter dash finals, placing ninth in 53.20 seconds.

Junior Andres Ramirez also earned two points in Friday's 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:11.51. Junior Micah Cothren ran the 1,500 meters in 4:10.74, finishing 11th and senior Bill Hyatt was 17th in the shot put with a throw of 9.50 meters (31 ft.-2 in.).

Centre won the men's title with 168.5 points, followed by BSC (164), Rhodes (139), TU (89), Colorado (63), Southwestern (50.5), Millsaps (43), Sewanee (29), Hendrix (17), Dallas (16) and OU (0).

Hendrix will return to action on May 10-11 at the North Central Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill.
